Fall Migration 2017 - September 30 through Fall

Pelican Migration in Central Illinois – Lake Springfield

Sightings on Lake Springfield on the south end of the lake

on Sugar Creek.

Sep 30  Sat     – 6 birds at 330pm.  Pelicans ESE of Glaser Park, 

                                 northwest (NW) of Glenwood Middle School (GMS)

                           15 Great Egrets in cove southwest (SW) of Glenwood Middle School, 

                                 due to shallow water because of drought in area.   

Oct 1  Sun       – 6 birds at 300pm.

Oct 2                – 6 birds at 650am. 

Oct 3                – 6 birds at 615pm. 

Oct 4                – 6 birds at 330pm.  Pelicans ESE of Glasser Park, NW of GMS

                             40 Great Egrets in cove, SW of GMS

                                 (large group of birds in shallow water in cove)   

Oct 5                – 6 birds at 600pm.

Oct 9                – 6 birds at 1030am.      40 Egrets still seen.

Oct 10              – 41 birds at 212pm, ESE of Glasser Park, NW of GMS.   

                              25 birds at 112pm.  42 Great Egrets at 115pm in cove, SW of GMS.

Oct 11              – around 30 birds at 6pm, ESE of Glasser Park, NW of GMS.

                             around 40 Great Egrets at 605pm in cove, SW of GMS on shallow water.

Oct 12              – 30 birds at 555pm, ESE of Glasser Park, NW of GMS.

                             over 50 Great Egrets at 610pm in the

                                 shallow water, on the "sand bars" in the cove, SW of GMS.

Oct 13  Fri        – 45 birds at 755 to 830am, ESE of Glasser Park, NW of GMS.

Oct 15  Sun      – 50 pelicans at 400 to 430pm, ESE of Glasser Park, NW of GMS.       

                             110 pelicans on the "sand bars" in the  cove,

                                  SW of GMS.   50 Egrets in the cove and trees.

Oct 16               – Group of pelicans seen at 700am ESE of Glasser Park

                                  and another group in the cove, SW of GMS.

Oct 18 Wed      – 220 pelicans at 555pm, ESE of Glasser Park, NW of GMS.       

Oct 21 Sat        – 20-30 pelicans flying over the southern Sugar Creek, south of GMS.

Oct 22 Sun       – around 80 birds at 6pm, ESE of Glasser Park, NW of GMS.       

Oct 23               – 86 birds at 540pm, ESE of Glasser Park, NW of GMS.       

Oct 24               – around 70 birds at 530pm, ESE of Glasser Park, NW of GMS.   

Oct 25               – 110 birds at 530pm, Glasser Bridge Park and Fishing Area,                                                                    (north of Chatham Road) (ESE of park, NW of GMS). 

Oct 26               – around 70 birds at 610pm, Glasser Bridge Park and Fishing Area,

                                    (north of Chatham Road) (ESE of park, NW of GMS). 

Oct 28  Sat       – 50 to 70 birds at 1115am, Glasser Bridge Park and Fishing Area,

                                    (north of Chatham Road) (ESE of park, NW of GMS). 

Oct 30               – 80 birds at 200-230pm, Glasser Bridge Park and Fishing Area, ESE of park                                – 120 birds feeding at 345 to 410pm.

             -  On Sangchris Lake,  100 pelicans at 450pm.  Northwest of the dam,

                              near  County Road 2070N

Oct 31 Tue       – 8 birds at 1130am - east southeast of Glasser Bridge Park

                          – 50 birds at 12 noon to 1230pm - at Marine Point near Bay Island

                          – 50 birds at 1240 to 1250pm – most south of Lindsey Bridge,

                                 viewed from Lindsey Boat Launch. Some also seen north of bridge.

                          – 8 birds at 1pm - near Sunset Park and Fishing Area, cove south of zoo.

              -  On Sangchris Lake,  80 pelicans at 1pm to 130pm.  Northwest of the dam,                                              near  County Road 2070N

Nov 3               – 50 birds at 530pm - east southeast of Glasser Bridge Park

Nov 4 Sat        – 75 birds at 1130am - east southeast of Glasser Bridge Park

                          – 15 birds at 1215pm - at Marine Point near Bay Island

                          – 15 birds at 1230pm – most south of Lindsey Bridge,

                              viewed from Lindsey Boat Launch.

                -  On Sangchris Lake,  35 pelicans at 1250pm.  Northwest of the dam,                                                       near  County Road 2070N

                          – 25 birds at 1230pm - at Marine Point near Bay Island

Nov 6               – 80 birds at 700am - east southeast of Glasser Bridge Park

Nov 8               – 30 birds at 700am - east southeast of Glasser 

Nov 10 Fri       – 23 birds at 1pm - at Marine Point near Bay Island

                         – 10 birds at 130pm – south of Lindsey Bridge,

                                  viewed from Lindsey Boat Launch.

                         – 7 birds at 155pm - east southeast of Glasser Bridge Park

Nov 18 Sat     – 50 birds at 830am, feeding in the cove off the Glasser Bridge Park.

                                 Temperature 65 degress, before major cold front moves through.

                                 Temperature dropped to 50 degrees by 930am.

                        – 50 birds at 325pm – east southeast of Glasser Bridge Park.

                                 Temperature now 40 degrees.

Nov 19 Sun    – 50 birds at 235pm – east southeast of Glasser Bridge Park

                        – 10 birds at 130pm - at Marine Point near Bay Island

                        – 1 bird at 140pm – near Lindsey Bridge
